Starting a personal brand can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re already balancing a full-time job and family responsibilities. But here’s the good news: You don’t have to quit your job or completely upend your life to build a personal brand in 2025.
In this post, I’ll share what a personal brand is, why it’s worth starting, and three practical steps to help you get started while keeping your 9-to-5.
What Is a Personal Brand?
A personal brand is simply how people perceive you when they hear your name. It’s what you’re known for, how you show up, and the expectations people have when interacting with you—online or offline.
Think about this: If someone asked your friends what you’re really good at, what would they say? That’s a big clue about what your personal brand might be.
Why You Should Start a Personal Brand
1. Financial Freedom & Extra Income:
Having a personal brand can open up opportunities for additional income. Whether you’re saving for a big goal, paying off debt, or investing in your dreams, a personal brand can provide financial flexibility.
For example, I used my personal brand to pitch to brands and secure partnerships that helped fund my wedding expenses—like my bridal shower decor and more. It made a huge difference in reducing financial stress.
2. Pursue Your Passion & Build a Legacy:
Building a personal brand allows you to create something meaningful and aligned with your passions. Think of it as an insurance policy for your future—something that can open doors your regular job never could.
From a spiritual perspective, your personal brand could even be the answer to someone else’s prayer. If you have a gift or knowledge that can help others, it’s your responsibility to share it.
3 Steps to Starting Your Personal Brand
Step 1: Find Your Zone of Genius:
Start by identifying what you’re really good at—your "zone of genius." Ask yourself:
What do I love to do?
What do people come to me for advice about?
What have I done that I’m proud of?
Your zone of genius doesn’t have to be something extraordinary—it just has to be something you’re good enough at to help others. For example, I love content creation, and my husband is building a brand around his passion for gaming. Both are valid and profitable niches.
Pro Tip: If you’re stuck, use AI tools to help brainstorm ideas based on your answers.
Step 2: Identify the Solution You Offer:
Once you know your zone of genius, figure out how it can solve a problem for someone else.
Ask yourself:
Who can benefit from my expertise?
What challenges are they facing?
What outcome or transformation can I provide?
For example:
If you’re great at budgeting, you could offer a system for busy moms to manage their finances.
If you’re skilled at baking, you could teach tutorials or take custom orders.
Step 3: Use Social Media to Position Yourself as an Expert:
Now that you’ve identified your niche and solution, it’s time to show up as the go-to expert.
Here’s how to start:
Share your journey—talk about how you got started and lessons you’ve learned.
Post tips and insights based on your expertise.
Connect with people who are where you used to be.
Pro Tip: Let your content flow naturally from your everyday life. Most of my content comes from things I’m already doing—whether it’s work, errands, or personal projects.
